Kamakura: Great Buddha and Hasedera
You have one short day left in Japan and want something calm before the flight.
You like the idea of a seaside evening, and also of sleeping in your Tokyo bed.
A day trip from Tokyo suits most first-timers, because the main temples close in the late afternoon. Stay overnight only if you want a beach-town evening and a slow morning. The deciding factor is how much you value a sunset walk over your Tokyo base.
An overnight adds the hours after the temples close. The Great Buddha grounds close at 17:30 from April to September and at 17:00 from October to March, and the statue interior closes at 16:30 1.
After that, you can walk the coast, ride the Enoden train, and eat dinner without a train timetable on your mind. The Enoden links Fujisawa, Enoshima and Kamakura, passing Hase with Hasedera Temple and the Great Buddha 2.
A day trip keeps you in one Tokyo hotel with no repacking. You see the Great Buddha, one or two temples and a lunch, then go back. It is the lighter choice for children and elders.
The Great Buddha costs 300 yen for general admission, with 50 yen extra to enter the statue 3. At RM 2.603 per 100 yen on 19 October 2026, 300 yen is about RM 8 3 4. Our Great Buddha day guide shows the route.

Carry one small bag on an overnight, and send the suitcase to your next hotel. Read sending luggage between hotels for the steps.
Enoden offers baggage storage from 9:00 to 17:00 at 300 yen per bag 2. That is for day use, so it will not hold bags overnight.
If you want Yokohama and Kamakura together, read the Tokyo, Yokohama and Kamakura loop or the two-day version. For another overnight decision, see Nikko overnight or day trip. The Kamakura page and Tokyo page show where it fits.
