Privacy policy

What happens to the details you share with us, in plain words.

This policy explains how JapanQuest handles your personal data. We follow Malaysia’s Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Act 709)1, the law that governs personal data in commercial dealings. In short, we use what you tell us to plan your trip, and you stay in control of it.

What personal data do we collect?

We collect what you choose to send us on WhatsApp. That can include your name, phone number, travel dates, who is travelling with you, ages, budget range and preferences such as food needs or mobility needs.

We also receive anything else you add to the chat, such as screenshots or questions. Please share only what helps us plan your trip.

Why do we use it?

We use your data to plan and quote your Japan trip. That covers suggesting routes, checking availability, preparing a quote and answering your follow-up questions.

We may also use it to keep a record of what we agreed, so your plan stays consistent as it changes.

Who do we share it with?

We share your details only with the suppliers needed to arrange what you ask for, such as hotels, rail or tour operators. We do this with your agreement, and we pass on only what each supplier needs.

WhatsApp itself carries our messages. Its handling of data is covered by WhatsApp’s own privacy terms.

How long do we keep it?

We keep your data for as long as we need it to plan, arrange and follow up on your trip. After that, we delete it or keep only what records law requires.

If you decide not to go ahead, you can ask us to delete your messages and details at any time.

What are your rights?

Under the Act, you can:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct data that is wrong, incomplete or out of date
  • Withdraw consent for us to keep using your data
  • Ask us to limit how we use it, such as for planning only

Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer plan or quote your trip. We will tell you if that is the case.

Do we use cookies or analytics?

If analytics is switched on for this site, we use Google Analytics to understand how pages are used. It collects anonymised usage data, such as which pages are visited, and we use it only to improve the site.

Our planning tools compute results in your browser. What you type into a tool stays on your device and is not stored by us.

How do you make a request?

Message us on WhatsApp with your name and what you would like us to do: access, correct, delete or stop using your data. We may ask a question to confirm it is you before we act.

You can read more about how we work on our about and contact pages. For travel information limits, see our disclaimer.

Will this policy change?

We may update this policy when our practices or the law change. The current version is always on this page.
