Our editorial policy
How we research, cite, correct and update every JapanQuest guide you read.
Every JapanQuest guide is researched from official and operator sources, and every fact carries a date. This page explains how we choose sources, cite them, correct mistakes and keep guides current. It applies to all our guides, destination pages and tools.
Where does our information come from?
We start with the people who run the thing. That means the Japan National Tourism Organization, the JR rail companies, airports, attraction operators and Japan’s weather agencies.
For money, we use official exchange rate sources. For entry rules, we point you to government sites in Japan and Malaysia. Blogs and forums can spark a question, but the facts we publish come from official sources.
How do we cite our facts?
Each number, price, travel time or date in a guide links to a source. You will see a small superscript number beside the claim. It matches an entry in the Sources section at the end of the page, with the source name, a link and the date we checked it.
When a detail lacks a reliable source, we leave it out or describe it in general terms. A missing number is better than a wrong one.
Why do we give ranges instead of promises?
Japan’s seasons and prices move on their own schedule. Cherry blossoms on a set day, snow in a set week or a fare that stays fixed are outside anyone’s control.
So we give historical ranges and dated prices, and explain how we worked them out on our methodology page. Our disclaimer lists what to confirm before you book.
How do we stay independent?
Our guides are written to answer your planning question honestly. When two options compete, we set out the trade-offs and say which fits which kind of traveller.
We also plan and quote trips for readers who ask us on WhatsApp. That work sits apart from the guides: the facts in a guide stay the same whether you enquire or not.
How do we correct mistakes?
If you find an error, message us on WhatsApp with the page link and what looks wrong. A screenshot or the source you found helps us check faster.
We review the claim against the original source. If it is wrong, we fix it, update the source date and note the change on the page where it affects your plans.
How do we keep guides up to date?
Rail fares, opening hours and seasonal timing change. We recheck facts when operators publish new information, when a reader flags something and as part of a regular review.
Each fact keeps its own accessed date, so you can see how fresh it is. If a guide no longer reflects how travel works, we rewrite it rather than patch it.
Who writes for JapanQuest?
Our guides come from the JapanQuest planning team. You can read more about who we are and how we work on our about page.
