Tokyo Skytree or Tokyo Tower

You have time for one big view of Tokyo and two famous towers to choose from.

Choose Tokyo Skytree if you are staying near Asakusa or the east side, or you want the tallest view. Choose Tokyo Tower if you are in Shiba, Roppongi or the central south, or you prefer the classic red tower and a shorter visit.

How do the two towers differ?

Skytree stands 634 m tall. Its Tembo Deck is at 350 m and the Tembo Galleria at 450 m 1. Tokyo Tower is 333 m tall, with a Main Deck at 150 m and a Top Deck Tour that reaches 250 m 2.

Skytree is the higher view. Tokyo Tower is the classic red icon and gives a lower, closer look at the city.

What do tickets cost in ringgit?

At RM 2.603 per 100 yen on 19 October 2026, an adult Skytree Tembo Deck ticket from 1,800 yen is about RM 47 3 4. The combination ticket from 3,000 yen is about RM 78 3 4.

Tokyo Tower’s Main Deck is 1,500 yen, about RM 39 5 4. Its Top Deck Tour costs 3,300 yen online, about RM 86, and 3,500 yen at the counter 5 4.

Prices can change with date and booking method. Use the ringgit budget tool to add them to your plan.

Which one fits where you are staying?

Skytree fits the east side. It is about a 5-minute ride from Asakusa 6, so it pairs with Senso-ji in a half day. If you stay there, read about Asakusa as a first-time base.

Tokyo Tower is a short walk from four stations: 5 minutes from Akabanebashi, 6 from Onarimon and 7 from Kamiyacho 7. It suits the central south, near Shinagawa or Shiba.

Which is easier to reach on landing day?

Oshiage (Skytree-mae) Station is about 39 minutes from Haneda and about 49 minutes from Narita 6. That makes Skytree a workable first stop if you land in daylight.

After a long flight from Malaysia, a tower is a calm first visit because you sit or stand and look. Still, rest first if the family is tired. See your first 24 hours in Tokyo.

How do you choose in three questions?

Answer these in order.

  1. Where is your hotel, east or central south?
  2. Do you want the highest view, or the classic red tower?
  3. Is this your main sight of the day, or a short stop between others?

East, highest view and main sight point to Skytree. Central south, classic tower and short stop point to Tokyo Tower.

If neither wins, Shibuya’s crossing and viewpoints offer another view. Send us your hotel area and we fit one into your Tokyo days.

Tell us which Tokyo district you are staying in and who is travelling, and we will tell you which tower fits your plan and which hour of the day suits your group.

Questions travellers ask

Which is better for a first-time visitor, Skytree or Tokyo Tower?

Neither is always better. Skytree is taller and sits near Asakusa, so it pairs with Senso-ji. Tokyo Tower is smaller, easy to reach on foot from more than one station, and its red frame is the classic photo. Pick the one near your hotel and your other plans.

How much do the tickets cost in ringgit?

At RM 2.603 per 100 yen, a Skytree Tembo Deck adult ticket from 1,800 yen is about RM 47, and Tokyo Tower's Main Deck at 1,500 yen is about RM 39. Both can change by date or booking method, so we recheck before you travel.

Can we visit a tower on the day we land from Malaysia?

It is possible if you land in daylight and feel awake. Skytree is about 39 minutes from Haneda and 49 minutes from Narita to Oshiage. After a long flight, families may prefer to rest and visit on day two.

Do we need to book tickets in advance?

Booking ahead can save time and, for Tokyo Tower's Top Deck Tour, costs less online at 3,300 yen than the counter at 3,500 yen. We suggest booking for busy weekends and school-holiday weeks, and we check the date with you.
