Tokyo plus Hakone in six days

You want the big city and a mountain onsen night, without dragging suitcases up every hill.

Six days is a comfortable length for Tokyo and one Hakone onsen night. Put Hakone in the middle of the trip, forward your big cases, and give the last Tokyo day to rest or shopping. This page gives the order and the costs.

What does the six-day order look like?

Here is one shape that works for couples and first-timers.

  1. Day 1: arrive in Tokyo, settle in and eat close to the hotel.
  2. Day 2: a major Tokyo day, such as the old districts and the city views.
  3. Day 3: a lighter Tokyo day with shopping or museums.
  4. Day 4: travel to Hakone, do the loop, and enjoy the onsen night.
  5. Day 5: a slow Hakone morning, then return to Tokyo.
  6. Day 6: last morning in Tokyo and the flight home.

Our Tokyo page and Hakone page cover each place. If you want only one day in the mountains, see Hakone loop in one day.
