Takkyubin, Japan's luggage forwarding

You dread dragging suitcases through stations, and wonder if someone can carry them ahead.

Takkyubin is the Japanese door-to-door parcel service, and visitors use it to send suitcases from one hotel to the next, or from a hotel to the airport. You hand over the bag, fill in a form, and it arrives at your next stop.

How does takkyubin work?

You take the bag to your hotel desk, a convenience store or a service counter and fill in the delivery form. The carrier delivers it to the address you wrote. Yamato’s Airport TA-Q-BIN, for example, sends luggage between an airport and a home or hotel 1.

Fees depend on size, weight and distance, and are shown by the carrier. Our sending luggage between hotels guide explains the steps.

How does it matter to a Malaysian traveller?

It helps if you carry two big suitcases, travel with children or elders, or change hotels often. You travel with one small bag and meet your suitcase at the next hotel.

Plan the timing. Parcels should be sent ahead, so carry what you need for the night in between. Yamato asks for drop-off two days before departure when sending to an airport 1. Read airport luggage forwarding and forwarding before a flight.
