KLIA and KLIA2

Your flight to Japan leaves from Kuala Lumpur, and you want the right terminal on the day.

KLIA and KLIA2 are the two terminals of Kuala Lumpur International Airport, in Sepang, Selangor. KLIA means Terminal 1, and klia2 means Terminal 2. They sit at the same airport but are separate buildings, so the terminal you need depends on your airline.

Why does the terminal matter for a Japan trip?

If you go to the wrong terminal, you lose time before a long flight. Check your e-ticket for the terminal name, then plan your ride to match.

Your landing airport in Japan also matters for your first night. Read Narita or Haneda for Malaysian flights and departure city and Japan arrival airport.

How do trains serve the airport?

The KLIA Ekspres route runs between Bandar Tasik Selatan and KLIA (T1 and T2), and a late-night KLIA Transit service runs until 1:00 AM. Children under 6 travel free 1.

Check the current timetable and fares with the operator before you travel.

What should you do before you leave?

  1. Read the terminal name on your e-ticket.
  2. Check it again the day before.
  3. Plan extra time for check-in and security.

If your flight lands late in Japan, read arriving late in the evening for a first-night plan.
