Coin locker, the station bag locker
You are dragging a suitcase between hotel checkout and your afternoon plans.
A coin locker is a pay-as-you-go bag locker, found at most Japanese stations and many tourist sights. You choose a size, put the bag in, pay and take the key or code. It is the simplest way to free your hands between checkout and your afternoon plans.
What does it cost?
Coin lockers at most stations and tourist facilities cost between 300 and 600 yen depending on size 1. At the Bank Negara selling rate of RM 2.603 per 100 yen on 19 October 2026, that is about RM 8 to RM 16 1 2.
How does it matter to a Malaysian traveller?
Lockers help on change-over days, when you leave a hotel in the morning and your next room is not ready. Popular stations fill early, so put bags in as soon as you arrive. Large suitcases may not fit the smaller lockers.
Most major hotels can also arrange luggage delivery between hotels 1, which suits heavy bags. Takkyubin is a luggage delivery service between hotels or airports.
Compare the options in coin lockers versus station luggage storage, and read luggage storage after checkout for hotel options.
