Disney-area hotel or Tokyo city base
The kids want the park, and you want the rest of Tokyo too.
A hotel by the bay sounds restful, and you worry about getting back to the main stations.
An Odaiba hotel suits families who want space, sea air and a calm evening, and who are happy to make one transfer at Shimbashi each time they leave the bay. It is a weaker choice for a first trip centred on Shinjuku, Asakusa and day trips.
Odaiba is a waterfront area reached by the Yurikamome line. The line runs from Shimbashi (U01) to Toyosu (U16) with 16 stations, and the Odaiba and Aomi stops include Odaiba-kaihinkoen (U06), Daiba (U07) and Aomi (U10) 1.
The area has Odaiba Seaside Park, Palette Town with its giant Ferris wheel, VenusFort and Zepp Tokyo 2. Our Tokyo page shows how the bay fits the wider city.
Every trip begins with the Yurikamome ride to Shimbashi, then a transfer to a main line. Yurikamome’s airport page lists Haneda to Shimbashi at 21 to 28 minutes 3. The Narita Express route to Shimbashi takes 68 minutes, before the Yurikamome ride and without transfer time 3.
Haneda is the easier arrival for an Odaiba stay. Our Haneda route guide and the Shinagawa base guide compare the alternatives.
One-way paper tickets cost 190 to 390 yen for adults and 100 to 200 yen for children, and tap-to-ride payment has no child fare 4. At RM 2.603 per 100 yen on 19 October 2026, the top adult fare is about RM 10 4 5.
Use paper tickets or an IC card, a rechargeable tap card for trains, buses and shops, for children, and use the ringgit budget tool to total a day.
Waterfront paths are wide and mostly flat, which helps strollers and slower walkers. The load comes from station steps, transfers and the walk from the station to the hotel.
Ask the hotel which station exit has a lift and how long the walk takes with luggage. Our stroller logistics guide and the elder stay guide list the questions.
Odaiba suits families with younger children who like open space, shopping and one big attraction a day. It also suits families visiting teamLab Planets, since Toyosu is the last stop on the same line.
For a trip built on temples, old streets and day trips, a station-side base works better. Compare them in the hotel area comparator.
Choose a city base such as Shinjuku or Shinagawa when you plan day trips or arrive late. If a theme park is the main reason for the trip, read the Tokyo Disney hotel or city base guide and the Tokyo with kids plan.
Sea breezes make the bay feel cooler in winter, so pack a windproof layer. Halal options exist in large shopping centres but should be checked in advance. We confirm lifts, the room layout and the nearest meal options before you pay.
If you are weighing Odaiba against a station-side hotel, tell us your arrival airport and who is travelling. We compare the two bases for your group and show the daily ride count for each.
The kids want the park, and you want the rest of Tokyo too.
You want your parents to sleep well in Tokyo without climbing stairs at every station.
You land at Haneda or leave for Kansai by bullet train, and want fewer bags crossing Tokyo.
You want a Tokyo plan your children enjoy, with enough rest that nobody melts before dinner.
You want to know if the barefoot water museum is right for your family.
Tokyo is big, fast and a little overwhelming, and you want it to feel easy.
It suits families who want waterfront space, shops and a calm evening. It does not suit a first trip that centres on Shinjuku, Asakusa and day trips, because every ride starts with the Yurikamome and a transfer at Shimbashi.
Yurikamome's airport page lists Haneda to Shimbashi at 21 to 28 minutes and the Narita Express route to Shimbashi at 68 minutes, without transfers. Add the Yurikamome ride to Odaiba. Haneda is the easier arrival for an Odaiba stay.

Waterfront paths are wide and flat, but the line has station steps and transfers. Ask the hotel which station exit has a lift, and plan fewer rides per day. We check lift access before suggesting a hotel.
