Okinawa: Naha city or a resort coast
You picture warm sea and slow mornings and wonder whether to stay in town or by the beach.
You have landed in Okinawa and want the family at the hotel without a long, confusing transfer.
For central Naha, take the Yui Rail monorail from the airport. For a resort in the north, take an airport bus, a taxi or a rental car, because the monorail does not reach those areas.
The Yui Rail monorail runs from Naha Airport Station to Shuri Station, 12.9 km in about 27 minutes 1. It is the simplest ride into the city.
Pick the station nearest your hotel and check the walk with luggage. For a choice between the city and a resort stay, read Naha or a resort in Okinawa.
The airport lists bus routes to Onna, Nago, Motobu and the Churaumi Aquarium, including express buses 111 and 117 and the Resort Liner 2. You find the timetable and fare on Bus Navi Okinawa by entering your departure and destination stops 2.
Platform numbers appear on signs at the airport, so allow time to find yours. A taxi or a pre-booked transfer is calmer with children and luggage.
The monorail covers Naha, but the beaches and resorts sit farther away. A car lets you move between areas on your own schedule.
It also means driving on the left. Read renting a car in Japan as a Malaysian and driving on the left in Japan. If you stay in one resort, you may not need a car.
Decide your hotel area first, then the ride. Book a transfer or a car in advance if you land at a busy hour or carry heavy bags.
Consider sending bags ahead by courier, as in airport luggage forwarding to your hotel. See Okinawa from Malaysia for the flight side.
Answer three questions.
Naha and light bags point to the monorail. A resort and luggage point to a bus or taxi. Several areas point to a car.
If Okinawa follows a mainland trip, see Okinawa as an add-on after the mainland. Send us your hotel, and we plan the ride.
Tell us whether you stay in Naha or at a resort, and how much luggage you carry, and we will choose between monorail, bus, taxi and rental car for your arrival.
You picture warm sea and slow mornings and wonder whether to stay in town or by the beach.
You have seen the temples and cities, and you would love to end with sun and sea.
You picture beaches in Okinawa, but the route from Malaysia looks unclear.
You land with heavy cases and tired children, and you would rather arrive with a day bag.
You already drive on the left at home, and wonder what will still feel strange.
You want island warmth in Japan, and you are not sure how the logistics work.
The Yui Rail monorail leaves from the airport and runs through the city to Shuri, a 12.9 km line that takes about 27 minutes end to end. Check which station is closest to your hotel, and plan taxi for the last stretch if you carry heavy bags.

Only if you plan to move between several areas. The monorail covers Naha, but the beaches and resorts sit farther away. A car adds freedom, and also driving on the left. If you stay in one resort, an airport bus or transfer may be enough.
You can send bags ahead to a hotel by courier. That helps when the family travels light for the day. Ask us about luggage forwarding, and confirm your hotel accepts early deliveries.
