What is Kawagoe?
Kawagoe is called Koedo, or Little Edo, for its old merchant streets. The Toki no Kane bell tower rings four times a day, and Candy Alley has about 20 traditional sweet shops 1.

How easy is a day trip?
Tobu describes the trip from Ikebukuro to Kawagoe as 30 minutes by train 2. That makes a day trip simple and keeps luggage light.
The Tobu Kawagoe Discount Pass costs 1,200 yen for adults and 600 yen for children. It covers a round trip from Ikebukuro on the Tojo Line plus Tobu bus rides in designated sections, including the Koedo Loop Bus 3. At the Bank Negara selling rate of RM 2.603 per 100 yen on 19 October 2026, an adult pass is about RM 31 3 4.
What about luggage?
Take a small day bag. Coin lockers at most stations and tourist facilities cost between 300 and 600 yen depending on size, and most major hotels can arrange luggage delivery between hotels 5. Leaving the big suitcase at your Tokyo hotel is easier.

When does an overnight make sense?
Stay one night when:
- You want the old streets in the quiet evening and early morning.
- You visit during the Kawagoe Festival, held over the third weekend of October, with floats and music in the warehouse district 6.
- You are on a slow trip and prefer fewer long rides.
Book early for festival weekends. Otherwise a day trip saves a hotel change.
